The Sox have not seriously been linked to any player in the last couple of days. Nothing serious. Downes is too expensive, so we hear.
Theo is known for holding his cards close to the vest, especially since the Teixiera fiasco, when he asked the Red Sox to not show their hand in the press. They did, he didn't. Hello, Yankees! That's one thing to think about, is if the silence surrounding the Red Sox an omen of things to come.
Secondly, the Rockies have been getting their asses handed to them by the likes of the Pirates, having lost 7 straight, standing in 4th place in the NLW, and are just not playing very well. Tonight, I saw that the Rockies are now in sell mode. The Sox should have some interest in Brad Hawpe (whatever is left on $7.5M) and Joe Beimel (L) (whatever is left on ~$@2,5M.).
Hawpe is A LHH, RF, but has some occasional power (24/162 but only 6 this year) and compares to Kevin Youkilis.(Trot Nixon @ 30 Yrs) as a hitter.
Beimel is a LHP, has pitched only 31 innings in 45 appearances, mostly as a lefty specialist, but has a 2.98 ERA.
Sox could probably use Ramirez and Hermida, plus a prospect.
Thoughts??
I don't pretend to be a GM candidate, just thinking out loud.
UPDATE: Rockies are looking for a 2Ber as well. They also have Ianetta. Add Lowrie and Lowell to the mix, with Sox eating Lowell's salary and maybe another prospect??
End game: Hawpe, Beimel and Iannetta for Lowrie, Ramirez, Lowell, Doubront and Anderson/Reddick
